Draft Centres Strategy

Have your say on the Draft Centres Strategy to help set the direction for managing Wollondilly's unique towns and villages over the next 20 years.

The draft Centres Strategy provides a holistic consideration of Centres. It provides recommendations to ensure Wollondilly's Centres are successful, sustainable and vibrant places through a long term commitment to encouraging a 'sense of place'. The draft strategy identifies three design principles as the basis for delivering well used and vibrant centres, with high quality and walkable urban settings. These include:

  1. Walkability,
  2. Adaptable building typologies and
  3. Health, wellness and sustainability.

Eight 'Priority Centres' are identified to focus on in the short term and include Picton, Wilton New Town, Tahmoor, Thirlmere, Appin, The Oaks, Bargo and Silverdale.

Recommended actions are included within the draft strategy are included under the following principles:

  • Key Design Principles for Centres
  • Place Making Strategy, Monitoring and Consultation/Collaboration
  • Commercial Floor Space and Growth
  • Housing Within and at the Edges of the Centre
  • Hierarchy and Role of Centres
  • Natural, Scenic and Landscape Assets
  • Infrastructure and Utilities
  • Access and Movement
  • Pathway improvements within Centres
  • Land Uses, Open Spaces and Community Services and Facilities
  • Development and Use of Community Assets

The draft Strategy also includes recommendations for each of the eight Priority Centres.

The draft Strategy considers Wollondilly's 34 towns, villages and hamlets. However, it focuses on 8 'Priority Centres'.


Status of Draft Strategy

Council has endorsed the Draft Centres Strategy for consultation purposes only. It does not yet represent Council policy. Community and stakeholder feedback will inform the final strategy.
