Draft Urban Tree Canopy Plan & Landscape Strategy

Have your say on the draft Urban Tree Canopy Plan & Landscape Strategy to help to protect, maintain, and enhance a healthy and diverse urban tree canopy within Wollondilly, now and into the future.


Recommended actions within the draft Strategy are included under the following four focus areas:

Create
Strategic planting of more trees to meet Wollondilly's urban canopy targets.


Manage
Protect and maintain a diverse, healthy, connected and resilient urban canopy.
Bushfire Management
Plan and manage canopy in bushfire prone areas to not increase bushfire risk.

Community
Collaborate with and educate our community


The draft Strategy is supported by the Background and Analysis report. It includes an analysis of spatial data and tree canopy.

The assessment shows that only three of Wollondilly's existing towns meet the 40% canopy target; Warragamba, Silverdale and Oakdale. Most of Wollondilly's existing towns have between 20-40% canopy cover and only Menangle has a canopy cover that is less than 20% in its urban areas.


Land Included in the Study Area

The draft Strategy is focused on urban land uses. This includes land within a Residential, Business, Industrial, Special Purpose or Recreation land use zone.


Status of Draft Strategy

Council has endorsed the Draft Urban Tree Canopy Plan & Landscape Strategy for consultation purposes only. It does not yet represent Council policy. Community and stakeholder feedback will inform the final strategy.
