Wollondilly Significant Tree Register

Council is developing a Significant Tree Register to recognise and protect Wollondilly’s most important trees.

Established trees have many environmental benefits, such as providing shade and urban cooling, providing important habitat, and improving amenity.

Initially, we are looking to identify significant trees on public land. This will help us refine and finalise the proposed process for adding trees to the Register. Trees on private land can also be nominated, and will be considered at a later date once the Register has been established.

We are looking for trees that meet one or more of the following;

  • Exceptionally large
  • Old
  • Known heritage significance (especially if they are not heritage listed nor in a heritage conservation area.)

The Process

Nominations will be assessed against the National Trust Tree Significance Criteria, outlined below, and detailed under the "Assessment Criteria" tab. Nominations will be considered by an expert assessment panel. Your nomination will help us to finalise the Significant Tree Register process, and trees that meet the criteria will be included on the Register once it is established. Nominees will be advised of the outcome.

If you know of a tree (or trees) that meet the criteria, please submit a separate Significant Tree Nomination for each tree, or each group of trees.

Funding

Funding for this project has been provided through the NSW State Government Greener Neighbourhoods Program.

Tree Significance Assessment Criteria

  • Outstanding Visual or Aesthetic Significance
  • Botanic or Scientific Significance
  • Significant Ecological Value
  • Historic, Cultural or Commemorative Significance
  • Social Significance

For details please see the full list of Assessment Criteria.
