What is the purpose of Wollondilly Shire Council’s drone program?

The primary purpose of Council’s drone program is to service Council’s business needs -- including assets and land management, infrastructure maintenance, waste and vegetation management, compliance and planning, events and law enforcement.

What is the purpose of the Drone Policy?

One of the main purposes of this Drone Policy is to ensure we conduct our drone operation legally and safely. This Policy keeps privacy and surveillance legislation in mind to protect the interests of the public.

Will Council engage with the community about the drone program?

YES. Seeking feedback through public exhibition of the Drone Policy is the first step.

In addition, before we perform a drone flight in a public place such as a park or sportsground, we will send notification letters to residents nearby so that they are aware.

Council is also planning to conduct information sessions within the community to encourage communication about the drone program.

Does an individual or organisation need Council’s permission before they perform a drone flight over Council owned or managed land?

YES. They need Council’s permission. Meanwhile, it is their own responsibility to abide by CASA laws, regulations and all other relevant laws.
