Why are we asking?

In July 2021, Wollondilly Shire Council was awarded grant funding for the purpose of developing a Wollondilly Shire Wide Heritage Study. The Wollondilly Shire Wide Heritage Study will form part of a larger suite of heritage updates required to assist Council in achieving its vision for comprehensive and best-practice heritage measures. The Study will review and include a list of places and items valued and identified by the community.

What does local level heritage protection mean?

Heritage protection ensures that what is historically important is conserved for the enjoyment of future generations.

What type of places could be identified?

Potential heritage places and items do not need to be old, but they need to have some historical or cultural value. They include not only buildings but also trees, gardens, street furniture, public art, other structure, etc. They can include anything that might be considered of significance to the local community in terms of historical, aesthetic, architectural, social or spiritual significance.

What happens to the potential new heritage items?

All new potential heritage places or items identified by the community will be reviewed and possibly included in our Shire Wide Heritage Study.

What are the benefits of a heritage listing?

Please see ‘benefits of listing’ information page developed by Heritage NSW.
