Will any trees be removed?

Unfortunately a number of trees on the site are declining in health and exhibit structural issues and will require removal to ensure safe playspaces can be created.

    Golden Robinia

The Golden Robinia next to the existing toilet block has a weakened main trunk union. Council’s Tree Management Officer has undertaken a thorough review of the tree and has advised it is has a higher chance of splitting in severe weather.

As the new amenities building and playground and will be in close proximity to this tree the decision has been made to remove it and replace it with a suitable advanced tree that will grow to provide shade and amenity for decades to come.

    Poplars

There are five Poplars growing along the shared path that are not desirable to retain. These species decline in health with age and can then pose an increased risk of falling branches.

A number of these trees have been removed from the parklands in recent years.

Poplars are not well suited to the Picton climate and will be replaced with species that will be more suited to the climate in the Botanic Gardens.
