Integrated Water Management - Adopted December 2020

Adopted - Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy

Wollondilly Shire contains much of Sydney’s drinking water catchment, and is rich in natural heritage including unspoiled creeks and rivers.

We are also experiencing growth, which will impact water quality and supply, biodiversity, recreation and climate resilience. With this in mind, it is increasingly important to proactively manage and protect our waterways and water sources into the future.

The Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy aim to drive smarter water management outcomes including:

  • protecting the health of the aquatic ecosystems
  • adding value to biodiversity, recreation, liveability, climate resilience and flood management
  • minimising the long term resource and cost burdens on Council, the community and other stakeholders
  • promoting water conservation and reuse.

In 2019, we asked what was most important to you about our local waterways and water supply. Thanks to those of you who shared your thoughts. We incorporated that feedback as well as input from key stakeholders such as Sydney Water, the Environment Protection Authority, and the former Office of Environment and Heritage (now incorporated into the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment) to develop the Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy.

Last year, we invited feedback on the draft Policy and Strategy through the Public Exhibition process.

In December 2020, the Integrated Water Management Policy and Strategy were adopted, and are now being implemented.
