On-Site Sewage Management and Greywater Re-Use Policy Review

Council is responsible for determining whether proposed on-site sewage management systems are suitable for the site where they are to be installed.

This policy outlines the design criteria to achieve sustainable on-site sewage management practices within the Shire.

Wollondilly has one of the highest number of on-site sewage management systems within NSW. There are currently over 8,000 systems, with this number increasing as more development occurs in the rural and semi-rural areas.

The current On-Site Sewage Management & Greywater Re-Use Policy was adopted by Council in November 2021 and applies to all unsewered land, and developments with on-site sewage management systems not serviced by a reticulated sewerage system in Wollondilly Shire.

We have reviewed the Policy to ensure compliance with current legislation and to achieve satisfactory environmental outcomes. We have amended the draft Policy with minor additions and changes to reflect both current requirements and standardised conditions of consent. The draft Policy also reflects requirements for the electronic lodgement of Quarterly Contractor Reports for aerated systems online through the On-Trac Council Portal.
