Council is inviting feedback on the revised Gas Scare Gun Policy which defines guidelines for their use.
This Policy was last adopted by Council on 16 November 2021. This draft Policy defines guidelines for the use of gas scare guns within Wollondilly Shire to protect the amenity of rural areas, and to reduce potential environmental impacts.
Council recognises that the use of scare guns is a normal part of crop farming and that hearing them is part of living in a rural landscape. We support the rights of primary producers to use scare guns, so long as their use is consistent with this policy.
Primary responsibility for the control of noise from gas scare guns rests with Local Government as the Appropriate Regulatory Authority (ARA). The Protection of Environment Operations Act, 1997 and the NSW EPA ‘Noise Guide for Local Government’ provides the framework of this Policy.
