Wilton Growth Area - Commercial Centres Study

Pedestrian mall with people, trees, and multi-story buildings, plus a sign reading Wilton Town Centre

The draft Wilton Growth Area Commercial Centres Study was commissioned by Council to

  • identify the employment and economic development potential of the centres
  • understand the demand, location, role and type of centres required to support the future population of the Wilton Growth Area.

This includes the main commercial centre of Wilton Town Centre, and smaller commercial centres within the residential areas.

In the coming years, Wilton will have a critical role in the supply of retail and commercial jobs for the Shire, including new community and health services. On full development and occupation, the Wilton Town Centre is expected to generate up to 2365 retail jobs, with up to 635 being generated in the other local centres combined. (Not including jobs from other industry sections such as education or community services.)

The centres will include space for supermarkets; cinemas; a discount department store; specialty retail; restaurants, speciality food and catering; personal services such as hairdressing and beauty; health and leisure facilities; and more.

This study is a stand-alone strategic planning document which provides an evidence-based framework, and will support the delivery of the local centres in the various precincts in the Wilton Growth Area, including the Wilton Town Centre.
