Town Entry Signs for Appin, Tahmoor and Wilton

Inviting Suggestions for Taglines

We are updating our place and destination signage across the Shire with a clear, coordinated look.

Earlier in 2024, Council resolved to include 'Rural Living' as the tagline for the entry signage for most villages.

Some will have other taglines instead of 'Rural Living' as follows:

  • Menangle - Birthplace of Australian Agriculture
  • Picton - The Stonequarry Town
  • Thirlmere - Home of Our Rail Heritage

We are now inviting suggestions for the taglines for

  • Tahmoor
  • Appin
  • Wilton

How do you envision the town? What’s it known for? What’s its best feature? What short phrase would be the best way to introduce the town to visitors?

Background

In September 2023 we invited feedback about proposed options for place and destination signage around the Shire. The consultation helped us understand community sentiment and we revised the preferred design to incorporate community feedback. Council adopted the signage design package with some adjustments.

While the initial focus of design and consultation was on Shire entry signage, the adopted design will also be used for other signage including town and village entry signage, street blade signage, sportsground and facilities signage, and other signage. Entry signage for the Shire, as well as villages and towns, needs to ensure clarity and simplicity so road users can read the signs quickly.

Why Do We Need New Signs?

To date, signage around the Shire has been inconsistent, and some signs need to be replaced because they are damaged or have been removed.

The current Council branding - including the 'ribbon W' logo, colours and fonts - was introduced in 2015. It's used on our website, forms, correspondence, banners, uniforms and vehicles, so incorporating it into signage across the Shire will continue the implementation of current branding.

Signage plays a vital role in creating a sense of place, welcoming visitors, providing information, and contributing to the overall identity and branding of our Shire.
