Picton crossing to be relocated for pedestrian safety

Wollondilly Council will be improving the safety and upgrading the streetscape of Argyle Street Picton by relocating the existing pedestrian crossing in Argyle Street, thanks to funding under the Australian Government Black Spot program.

Council has undertaken the design for a new crossing and selected a contractor, aiming to take advantage of the quieter traffic flows resulting from COVID-19 social isolation measures to complete the work.

The existing pedestrian crossing will be relocated from the intersection of Argyle Street and Menangle Street, approximately 45m to the north away from the intersection.

Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Moving the pedestrian crossing away from the corner and giving it an upgrade will improve the Picton streetscape, but more importantly will make it safer for people crossing the road.”

“This seems like an ideal time to undertake work in a high traffic flow area, as there are less cars than usual on the road while people are responsibly staying home.”

“I would like to thank Member for Hume, Angus Taylor and the Federal Government for providing the Black Spot funding for this important project,” he said.

Work to relocate the crossing is scheduled to start on Monday 27 April 2020 and will take approximately six weeks to complete, with a budget of $310,000.

Traffic controllers will be on site and there may be some disruption to traffic as the work gets under way. All efforts will be made to maintain access to properties and businesses but some minor disruptions may occur.
