Community halls can provide a thriving central venue to hold community events, classes and gatherings.
Council is engaging with the communities in Thirlmere and Oakdale as we develop plans for new community halls in these locations, thanks to funding from the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (formerly WestInvest) to redevelop these sites.
In Phase One of consultation we heard about community priorities, preferences, and anticipated uses for these venues. Using that initial feedback, we have developed draft plans and options.
We’d like to check in to see that our draft plans are right, and see if there are any adjustments that could enhance these valuable community facilities.
Plus, we’re inviting your thoughts on how the halls should ‘look and feel’.
For Thirlmere, we have two options for the layout of the site – and would love to know which you prefer and why.
Your feedback through this phase will help with finalising the designs.
Thirlmere Options
There are two site designs available to view for Thirlmere Community Hall, withsome aspects to consider:
Option 1
The building is at the front of the site, with gated car parking behind the building.
Benefits
Provides great street frontage and presence
Challenges
Reduced lawn area / break out space for hirers to use (e.g. play groups / jumping castles)
Potential clash with pedestrians and vehicle movement along the driveway running along the side of the building
Option 2
The building is located at the rear of the site, with gated car parking at the front of the site.
Benefits
Reduces vehicle-pedestrian conflict
Allows a larger adjoining fenced open-space area (capable of having jumping castles and play group activities)
Allows more space for new tree planting
Challenges
There is less street ‘presence’.
Give Input
Please take a look at the draft designs - there are simplified versions and more detailed documents for you to consider.
