Master Planning Bargo Sportsground

Give Feedback on the Proposed Layout

Wollondilly Shire Council is preparing a master plan to guide upgrades and investment for Bargo Sportsground, and we’re inviting feedback on our initial concept plan.

Bargo Sportsground already provides multiple sport and recreation opportunities for the local community. Having a master plan in place will help maximise these opportunities and allow us to get the most out of this great location.

We have engaged sport and recreation consultants Otium Planning Group to assist in preparing the Bargo Sportsground Master Plan. Together we’re developing the Master Plan in consultation with the community, key user groups and local Aboriginal groups.

Previous Consultation and Research

We will be building on the recent community and stakeholder consultation about sport and recreation needs across the Shire. This has given us more insight into the sentiment in Bargo, around the community’s aspirations and vision for local sport and recreation. Best practice examples and research into the local context are also factoring into the planning process.

The Master Plan Process

A master plan is a 10-year plan that helps Council and user groups work methodically towards improvements at the site that ultimately enhance the health and wellbeing of our community.

Phase One engagement about Bargo Sportsground invites community feedback on a concept layout plan designed to help activate the sportsground for a variety of ages and interests. This is not a yet a master plan, but an early concept design to promote discussion with the community and stakeholders.

Feedback received from the community consultation will be used to define and develop the Master Plan, and the community will have another opportunity to provide further feedback during Public Exhibition.

An Overview

The draft Bargo Sportsground Master Plan concept design suggests some changes that will enhance the way formal sport is provided at this location, and further promote other recreational pursuits at the sportsground.

Key aspects of the draft concept layout plan include:

  • Reorientation of sports fields
  • Separating the cricket wicket from the football field area of play
  • Relocating the tennis courts to the front of the site to address the issues experienced with trees, drainage and passive surveillance
  • Increasing formal parking options
  • Establishing clear vehicle movements throughout the site and opening up vehicle exit off Kader Street (also helping to improve pedestrian safety)
  • Removing the redundant trotting track and equestrian facilities
  • Repositioning the children’s playground further from the car parking and entrance road for improved safety – yet still next the amenities
  • Enhancing the youth activity facilities with an upgraded and expanded skate park, pump track and multi-court with rebound wall
  • Consolidation of some of the buildings
  • Identifying a new multipurpose sports building that is positioned central to the football field centre line and providing new amenities / change rooms within in the proposed new facility
  • Creation of a shared pedestrian / bicycle path / loop through the site
  • Improvements to the Bargo Community Hall, envisioning it as a central hub catering to the diverse needs of all clubs and the wider community
  • Establishing a short stay RV site within the space.

Give Feedback

  • Join us at a community drop-in session at Bargo Sportsground on Saturday 30 November, from 9:30am – 12:00 noon.
Check out the draft concept design and chat with staff and consultants.
  • Take a look at the draft concept design under the document tab and share your feedback below.

We’re accepting feedback until 8 December 2024.
