Waste Management Strategy & Action Plan - Adopted March 2021
Wollondilly Council’s Waste Management Strategy & Action Plan reflects the community’s aspiration towards economically and environmentally sustainable waste management. The Strategy and Action Plan were adopted by Council in March 2021.
The Strategy outlines:
Key activities in the management of waste
Specific actions
Target completion dates
Expected outcomes.
It addresses important areas such as:
Landfill diversion
Domestic waste collection, processing and disposal
Contamination management in domestic waste bins
Domestic kerbside clean-up services
Litter management
Illegal dumping
Council leading by example in waste avoidance and reduction
Management of problem wastes such as medical sharps, chemicals, mattresses, gas cylinders and e-waste.
Proposed actions include
Constructing and operating a free community recycling centre for problem wastes
Helping residents reduce the amount of waste going into red-lid bins
Continuing the trial of public place recycling bins
Working with neighbouring councils towards joint waste contracts
Planning to ensure residents have access to bulky waste drop-off in the long term.
