Draft Updated Wilton Health & Wellbeing Strategy

Shaping a Healthy Wilton

Updated Strategy Now on Public Exhibition

Wollondilly Shire Council is inviting feedback on our draft updated Wilton Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The draft strategy celebrates Council’s achievements to date while identifying shared challenges, opportunities, and priorities for shaping a healthy Wilton as it evolves. A key focus is advocating for health and medical services, including the need for an integrated health services hub or hospital. Additionally, our draft updated strategy reinforces Council’s commitment to advocating for public transport, to ensure greater accessibility and improve connectivity to support the growing community.

Background

Council is committed to embedding health into planning to enhance community wellbeing, and this draft strategy continues that commitment. In 2020, Council adopted the initial Wilton Health and Wellbeing Strategy to guide the creation of our community where every person has the opportunity to live well. Since then, Wilton’s population has grown, and the planning frameworks for healthy built environments have evolved. We have reviewed and refreshed the strategy to ensure Council’s priorities and actions remain relevant, actionable, and collaborative, aligning with the evolving needs of the Wilton community as it grows, and reinforcing Council’s commitment to shaping a healthy, connected community for all people.

The draft Strategy describes the type of infrastructure and actions needed to support a healthy and liveable Wilton community. It recommends 15 actions for Council, State Government and Developers, based on eight (8) focus areas:

  1. Social connectedness
  2. Access to nature and open space
  3. Employment and income
  4. Active transport
  5. Equity
  6. Education
  7. Access to health care
  8. Access to healthy food.
