We are inviting feedback on our draft Strategic Asset Management Policy.
An asset is a resource that has an economic (or capital) value, with the expectation that it will provide a benefit now and into the future for the community. Typically, assets include roads, buildings and playgrounds.
The Policy objectives include:
Ensuring that services and infrastructure are provided in a sustainable manner, with the appropriate levels of service to residents, businesses, visitors, and the environment
Developing and updating the Asset Management Strategy as the primary framework to maintain asset services for current and future generations
Managing and safeguarding assets with appropriate asset management plans and financing
Creating and sustaining a proactive asset management culture - an environment where all employees take an integral part in overall management of assets
Meeting legislative requirements for asset management and processes that align with demonstrated best practice
Ensuring resources and operational capabilities are identified and responsibility for asset management is allocated
Assets are being recorded in accordance with asset accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
The current policy was adopted by Council in 2019, and the revised draft has been updated:
Section 1: Purpose amended to better reflect the intended Policy outcomes
Section 3: Roles and Responsibilities amended to give greater clarity
Sections 4 and 6: Inclusion of Risk Assessment and Guidelines sections to ensure a systematic and strategic approach
Formatting updated.
