Draft Healthy Food and Drink Policy

Now on Public Exhibition

Wollondilly Shire Council recognises the important role healthy food and drink choices play in supporting the wellbeing of our community.

We have recently developed the Draft Healthy Food and Drink Policy to provide a consistent, evidence-based approach to food and beverage provision across Council-run events, facilities, and programs, and we are now inviting feedback.

The draft policy aims to encourage healthier choices, model positive nutrition behaviours, and contribute to reducing the risk of preventable chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. Rather than restricting individual food choices, the policy focuses on creating a food environment where the healthy option is more accessible and more appealing. This enables individuals to make informed choices aligned with their own needs and preferences.

Proposed Policy Objectives

The Draft Healthy Food and Drink Policy seeks to:

  • Promote the availability of healthier food and drink options at Council events, programs, and facilities
  • Support consistency in food and beverage provision wherever Council has direct control or influence
  • Encourage community awareness of healthy eating through Council-led programs and events
  • Provide clear guidance to Council staff, event organisers, and community groups about food and drink options.

This policy aligns with Wollondilly Shire Council’s Community Strategic Plan and supports the community’s health and wellbeing.
