Council Asset Naming Policy

Now on Public Exhibition

Wollondilly Shire Council regularly undertakes the naming of Council assets like bridges, parks, roads, and buildings.

Good practice is to have a clear framework for the naming process. Our proposed Council Asset Naming Policy establishes the guidelines and requirements for how we name things, aligning with the Place Naming Policy of the NSW Geographical Names Board.

We are currently inviting feedback from the community about our draft policy.

Assets Covered by This Policy

Assets that are named by Council include roads, bridges, cycleways, pathways, reserves, parks, open spaces, buildings and facilities owned by Council. Unnamed geographical features, like hills, mounts and mountains and certain waterways can also be named.

Recent Examples

We've recently named a number of assets, including:

  • Norman Dent Reserve (Wood Street, Picton)
  • Marianna Park (Greenway Parade, Wilton)
  • Trevor Thompson Park (Ibbotson Street, Tahmoor)
  • Moyengully Bridge (Mulhollands Road near Barkers Lodge Road intersection, Picton)
