Child Safe Policy & Action Plan

Adopted May 2023

Wollondilly Council has adopted the Child Safe Policy & Action Plan.

The Child Safe Policy and Action Plan has been developed to guide Council staff, contractors and volunteers in their obligations to ensure children and young people are respected, empowered and safe.

The Policy embeds the 10 Child Safe Standards, which are a central feature of the NSW Government’s response to the Commonwealth Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (2017):

  • Child safety is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture
  • Children participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously
  • Families and communities are informed and involved
  • Equity is upheld and diverse needs are taken into account
  • People working with children are suitable and supported
  • Processes to respond to complaints of child abuse are child focused
  • Staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe through continual education and training
  • Physical and online environments minimise the opportunity for abuse to occur
  • Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is continuously reviewed and improved
  • Policies and procedures document how the organisation is child safe.

Wollondilly Shire Council is working towards becoming a Child Safe Organisation through the implementation of these standards.

Consultation closed 12 April 2023. For more information call Council on 4677 1100.
