Biosecurity Policy Review

Water hyacinth flowers

We are reviewing our Biosecurity Policy about Council’s focus for managing weeds, pests, and more.

This Biosecurity Policy is an overarching document outlining key principles and our local level approach to managing biosecurity matters, with a focus on weeds.

The most effective and practical aspects to focus on are the prevention and elimination of new weed invasions. As well, a key change in the revised policy is to outline Council’s collaborative role on broader topics including animal and plant diseases, pests, and plagues.

Specific actions are addressed in Council’s five-year Biosecurity (Weed Management) Strategy rather than in the Policy. The Strategy will be due for review in 2025, at which time there will be further opportunity for the community to participate in identifying priorities and actions related to biosecurity for the following five-year period.
