Better Road Drainage - Mount Hunter

Seeking Your Support for Funding

Burragorang Road Culvert

Keeping water off our roads is critical to ensuring they remain safe and open for travel. Effective drainage helps prevent hazards, allowing vehicles to move safely while also protecting the road surface from deterioration.

Wollondilly Shire Council has a chance to apply for federal government grant funding to fast-track drainage work on Burragorang Road in Mount Hunter. Thank you to those of you who have raised concerns. We’re listening, and would like to get this work done as soon as possible.

If the application is successful, the proposed work would result in:

  • Replace and widen the culvert to prevent flooding over the road during heavy rain events, which leads to road closures
  • Widen and lower the existing water channel on both sides of the culvert, to enable better water flow
  • Build a footbridge over the wider creek to replace the existing ground level footpath
  • Build a 600m levee for the footpath, from the culvert towards Spring Creek Road. The new footpath would be on the crest – up to one metre above the road low-point and existing footpath. This is to prevent the footpath from flooding during heavy rain events.

Can You Help?

  • Take the questionnaire
  • Write a letter of support using CM reference 15750 and emailing council@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au.
  • Join us at a drop-in session: Mount Hunter Community Hall on Monday 13 April from 4-6pm.

For more information please contact Assets, Transport & Engineering on 4677 1100.

We're accepting input until 5pm on Wednesday 15 April 2026.
